About La Crosse Concert Band
Thirty-three local musicians incorporated the La Crosse Municipal Band in 1917. However, it was not until the band shell in Riverside Park was completed in 1930 that regular concerts of the "City Band" began under the direction of D. Russell Wartinbee, director of music in the public schools. The band has played a summer concert series since that date. Our name changed to the La Crosse Concert Band when city support ceased in 1947. The continues to play under that name even though the City of La Crosse has returned as one of the band's major sponsors.
Mission Statement
The La Crosse Concert Band has been a proud symbol of the Coulee Region since 1917, bringing free, quality, multigenerational music to La Crosse's beautiful riverfront, and in so doing, providing educational opportunities for both the audience and for student and adult performers.
